Earlier I revealed how exciting today was with a sighting of a Civic Tourer (brown, manual, diesel)
Now we have even more excitement in the shape of a 2016 Scirocco TDI, also brown. Manualness unknown.
No, we’re not doing dieselgate. In 2015 71% of VWs sold here were diesel. In 2016 it was 70%.

Any predections about the percentage of VWs sold in Ireland that will be diesel in 2017? 69%?

69%!
Or maybe 68%. Not much change anyway.

Do you believe the legislation/taxation that makes diesels so attractive in Ireland will change soon?
My (now former) company switched from diesel to gasoline for their new company cars in 2016, but diesel never had the huge market share here as it has in neighbouring countries. Break even point for a random new diesel is certainly over 20k km a year, possibly over 30k km.

It might do, but not in the short term. Registration tax and annual road tax are both CO2 based so hybrids are equally benefited. Hybrids are generally more expensive and no more economical so they don’t sell well.
There’s absolutely no interest in petrol cars of more than about 1.6 litres and they’re hard to sell on unless cheap.
Just as an example, take the Mondeo. In 2016 diesel models were 99.41% of sales, with just 11 poor souls persuaded that a petrol one was a good idea.

Didn’t know they made a 3 door Auris, we only got the 5 door.

I’ll still take the FTO thanks. Wanted one since I used one in Grand Turismo 1! :P
I offer you the $0.15 Canadian in my pocket, plus a cough lozenge wrapper from my other pocket and some pocket lint.

Sounds to me like I should be finding something 15 years old or older that is awesome and European with a petrol engine in your area and then importing it to Canada for cheap....I’m only over here in Nova Scotia! :(
